A long time ago…na this ain’t a fairytale 😛

Anyways, a long time ago when I was little I used to think relationships lasted forever, no matter what they were..friends, relatives, grocers, maids, blah blah.. once you knew them they would be with you for the rest of your life! What a ridiculous notion, I know! Then after a few years, I discovered that relationships didn’t only have the time factor, they also had the depth factor! oh my! You could be “close” to some folks, but not so close to others! So I decided to have only a few “close friends”, not too many.. who I would stay friends with, forever.

But then after another decade, I discovered that no matter who or when or how, you could relate to everyone at some point in time, in one way or many, for a while or forever, that you could be in a “relationship” with the whole wide world. The only problem I faced was…what do you call these relationships? When I was in junior college I spent all my time hanging out with this awesome guy who was 3 years my senior, my psychology teacher asked me, “Is he your boyfriend?” Her question got me thinking, why did she have to give our ‘relationship’ a name? couldn’t he be anything other than a boyfriend? Why couldn’t our relationship be simply about what it was, the love for spending time with each other doing things we really loved?!

Haven’t you wondered, why does every relationship have to have a name? Why do we have to slot every connection (that we are not related to or working with!) into affairs or friendships? why can’t it just be what it is…pure love. Love is the only thing you get into a relationship for! Don’t believe me? Think about it, it’s your love for how someone makes you feel that you make them your spouse, it’s your love for someone’s naivety or innocence that makes you become their protector or best friend, it’s your love for your family that makes a CEO out of you.

Love is at the core of everything.

And if we were to just acknowledge and accept this don’t you think our lives would change for the better?! And if we were to realize that all we have is Here and Now, wouldn’t we want to give as much love to as many as we can? I realize this and I have changed for the better! Of course, this all needs to be done well within the “social boundaries” which, again, we have set for ourselves ( but that is food for another article ;)) Hey, I ain’t saying become immoral, or break laws. All I am saying is if we stop obsessing over our “roles” in life and just feel the love, we will become more compassionate, more giving. That includes allowing someone to cut into your lane while driving coz if he was your brother, you would have allowed him anyway! It also means reaching out to people a little more to find out how you can help them rather than obsessing over how your life sucks!

So today, I have an endless list of “friends”…men and women, beautiful people who do wonderful things! And I love them all in different ways! so when people ask me..what? another friend? from where? how many friends do you have that you are “really close to”? My answer is, “I didn’t know there was a limit on this!………..Is there?”

Do you believe that our lives are prewritten? That He has decided where we’ll end up and all we are supposed to do is play our part without knowing whats gonna happen at all?

Or are you one of those who believes that we write our own stories…that We choose the destination?

Or….are you the kind that believes that the apple is meant to fall from the tree anyways, but you wanna climb up there and break it…not wait for it to fall! If our lives are meant to ‘be’, they might ..one way or another but wouldn’t you like to explore the different ways you could get there? I know I’d like to!

Let’s say….like Tom Cruise who was dyslexic as a child, fame drove him.  And he was meant to be famous, but he didn’t get there as an athlete or a preacher (yea, he tried his hand at both) he got there as an actor! Somewhere deep within, I believe he knew what he wanted, he just didn’t know how he was gonna get it, well eventually, he found a way. I believe all of us go through this at some point in our lives. Like I feel, very strongly, that my life is meant to bring about a change..to make a difference but I didn’t know 17 years ago that I would continue being a voice artist and become a radio show host someday!  And I had absolutely no clue even 5 years ago that I would become a life coach or a counsellor…something that is totally unrelated to my college education and my career in voicing since the age of 6 😛 As it is, I have never been a ‘planner’ I like to flow. and I’ve always felt that the only way to know if it’s meant to be is to give it a shot.

So today, as I sit here…smiling..still not knowing where I will be ten years hence, I invite you to taste everything He dishes out for you… like I do! To try all the flavors (31 and more!) and then… choose.  And …this is my favorite part- to mix and match and use every gift He’s given me to create my life’s best sundae 😀

Coz I believe, what the heck, if it’s meant to happen the sundae or the shake “way”… I’d rather that it happen my way 😉

Rains, hmmm.

I love the rains but I have too many conditions, like, I enjoy them only when I am out of town, or not headed to work, or if they are not too heavy so the sky isn’t dull and grey, blah, blah, blah. So generally around June, when it’s a time for the rains to begin I start to prepare my mind for the ‘gloom’ over my days and ‘muck’ over my shoes! Yes, I have a thing for sunshine and shoes 😉

So you can imagine how my soul beams on days like today when the rain is just a drizzle  which means the sun is shining and so it is time to smile! 😀 And then it dawns on me, there is a reason why god made this big round yellow thing in the sky- it’s so, for some time, everyday, you can’t hide from anything…from yourself. To help us see everything clearly, in ‘bright light’ if you will! We do get some time to contemplate, rework our plans, mull over things we want to get over in the darkness of the night and that too everyday. But then we get something brilliant (literally too) a brand new opportunity, everyday, to start afresh to get going, even to make new mistakes 😛 but khul-e-aam (out in the open!)

So when the morning comes, remember the sun is smiling…so it’s time to shine 😉

When we say it’s time, it’s way beyond ‘time’! That’s exactly the case with my blog 🙂 Nonetheless, even after the time has passed, my blog has finally arrived, and so I am overjoyed. Too bad a typed word doesn’t convey the emotion 😛 But it is safe for you to assume overflowing joy anyways.

So welcome to Rachel’s “stew de vie”.This is where you ll find my seasonings (read points of view) to this dish called Life (daily learnings) 😉 Some recipes that I might have tried myself (my own triumphs and disasters), some recommended (or not) by others, some by simply watching and learning (sometimes that can be the best way!) You can join me in exploring every single taste, flavor, aroma, texture and temperature that life has to offer. We can keep gorging on what we like and ‘trashcan’ what we don’t.  Since we get to go through this journey only once, let’s make it the most scrumptiously delicious one ever!

This isn’t going to be a ‘how to boil an egg’ kind of experience but one thing I guarantee you, if you jump in with me whole heartedly- forks, peelers, instincts et al.. there ll be a lot for you to take home when you try Your hand at this dish called Life 😀

Bon appétit-o!
